My Story
1 in 3 children in Hull are growing up in poverty. Most of these children do not get the opportunities that other children from more privileged backgrounds do.
Having family connections for work experience, the confidence to travel and knowledge of the world of work are all things that can help young people with their future career path. Imagine being a child who doesn't have an adult in their family that works, have never ventured more than a mile from their own front door and have very little knowledge of any careers. Unless that child is given the opportunities that they are missing out on then the likelihood is that the cycle of poverty will continue.
I believe passionately that every child, not matter what background, should have the opportunity to achieve their potential. That's why I'm raising money to support the charity, because I genuinely believe the work they do can change children's lives for the better.
About the charity
Hull Children's University is there to give underprivileged children the chance to broaden their horizons, see a wide range of jobs and also meet positive role models. We also give them the chance to try new things and discover talents that they didn't realise they have. We do this when they are in primary school so that this intervention happens as early as possible.
We aim to light up all of the pathways for a child's future, whether they choose to do an apprenticeship, go to university or college, start their own business, or go straight into work. Whatever path they choose, we want them have that "hand up" that they need to create a better future.
